Dr. Emmet Mallon
My psychotherapy practice in Dublin is underpinned by the ethics and philosophy of psychoanalytic psychotherapy and I respect the confidentiality and psychical well being of each person I work with. I am accredited with the Irish Council for Psychotherapy and a Registered Practitioner member of the Association for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis in Ireland (Reg. Pract. APPI) and abide by their code of ethics.
My practice is informed by the Ethics of Psychoanalysis. Psychoanalytically informed therapy is an antidote to other Psy therapies that employ toolkits or techniques which address only the symptom and never the cause of a Subject’s suffering.
- Guest Editor of Lacunae, International Journal for Lacanian Psychoanalysis (2022).

- Adjunct Lecturer on the Professional Doctorate in Psychotherapy and Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Dublin City University (2012-2016).
- Postgraduate representative on DCU School of Nursing and Human Science Research Committee (2013-2015).
What to expect
Personal Psychoanalysis – Psychoanalysis is a talking therapy. I invite you to speak freely in a non-judgmental space. From here you can begin to understand something of your suffering, its cause, and how it functions.
Psychoanalytic training analysis – Twice-weekly appointments to meet the requirements of training are available. Fees may be negotiated in the preliminary sessions.
Psychotherapy – I am guided by the principle that each person is particular and that One’s way of suffering in the world is uniquely coloured by their personal experience. I direct a treatment that allows a person to find their own particular understanding of the human condition.
Counselling – Counselling differs from psychotherapy in duration and is most often short term and focusing on current difficulties. A longer-term Psychotherapy or Psychoanalysis may follow on from this.
Research supervision – My research expertise is in Thematic Analysis and Discourse Analysis. My research interests are Psychopathology and Psychoanalytic structural theory.
Clinical Supervision – I supervise mental health professionals working in both organisations and/or private practice.
Consultation about a family member or friend – You may be concerned for a loved one. You should contact me to discuss how someone else’s mental ill-health is impacting your life.
